CHOICES
CHOICES is a powerful, interactive program designed to help 8th graders and high school students realize that they can take charge of their lives. During two fast-paced, 50 minute classroom sessions, Santee Cooper employee volunteers show local eighth grade students that every decision has a consequence. Presenters use eye-opening role-play to help students make real-world connections between school and work. To get your business involved or to learn more about CHOICES, contact the CHOICES Education Group at www.choicesedgroup.org.

Environmental Internship Program
Ten rising college juniors and seniors from South Carolina are selected each year to participate in Santee Cooper's Summer Environmental Intern Program. This education-in-the-workplace program gives interns an in-depth understanding of electric generation, public power's role in the economic well-being and prosperity of South Carolina and the challenges power providers face in safeguarding the environment.
Summer interns work in various departments at Santee Cooper for hands-on experience at the nation's third largest publicly owned electric utility. In the field, interns will see what rural electrification has done for our state and what Santee Cooper continues to do to protect our natural resources. From the laboratory to the backwoods, they will have the opportunity to discover and explore the natural world around them. For additional information, call (843) 761-8000 ext. 5510 or click here.

Powerful Problems, Growing Solutions
Santee Cooper's Right of Way Management section is responsible for the vegetation maintenance of over 4,000 miles transmission rights of way. Every mile of right of way provides a diverse ecosystem where many species of plants and animals can be found. To encourage plant & animal bio-diversity, Santee Cooper utilizes an Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) strategy to maintain undesirable vegetation. This includes the use of mechanical mowing equipment, selective low volume applications of herbicides, and a wildlife enhancement program (POWER for Wildlife). For more information, call the Superintendent, Right of Way Management at (843) 761-8000, ext. 5591.
