Starting Electric Service
Opening Residential Account
New residential accounts require a deposit based on two highest consecutive billing periods at your new service location, but no less than $100. After 13 months of timely payments, your deposit will be refunded to you or applied to your final bill, which ever occurs first. An acceptable credit check may be considered in lieu of the deposit.

Building a New Home?
If you are building a new home that doesn't have a meter, please call the retail office in your service area and a customer service representative will begin the process with an application for service. Our area engineer will need to be contacted so they can begin the process of drawing a service order for scheduling line work. You will also need to check with local city or county electrical building inspection department for required fees and inspections before Santee Cooper can install a meter.

Moving into an existing Home?
If you are moving into an existing house that already has a meter, please contact our retail office in the service area where the home is located. You will need to complete a Residential Service Request Application and provide a security deposit. We will need to receive your completed application at least one working day (Monday through Friday) prior to the day requested to allow time for installation of the meter.

Stop Electric Service
You may request electrical service to be stopped by calling (843) 347-3399 and providing us with a date (Monday - Friday) and a forwarding address for the final billing. Whenever possible, we try to provide next day service, but a minimum two-day notice is requested to assure timely response. Once the service is disconnected, we will deduct the final billing from your deposit, if you were required to have one, and the balance will be mailed to you at the forwarding address.

Transferring Electric Service
If you are moving from one location to another and you have electricity in you name now, you may transfer the existing electricity from one location to another by filling out a transfer of service request. However, you are only allowed five working days to keep the electricity at both locations. If you need additional time, you must fill out a new residential application form (follow same procedure as Opening a Residential Account). All outstanding bills at the current location must be paid, and you may be asked to pay an additional deposit depending on the location you are moving to and your current pay history with Santee Cooper. Refer to Opening a Residential Account for our deposit requirements.
